What is Windows Media Encoder 9 Series?
Introduction
Windows Media encoder is a free software
that can be used to encode streaming media.
Streaming media allows media to be delivered
via the Web. Because the media is being
“streamed,” the user can view the media
before the entire clip is downloaded.
Many formats are available for streaming
but the one currently being supported
by the university is Windows Media file
(.asf, .wm, .wma, .wmv). Windows Media
Encoder is used to capture and convert
media into one of the above forms. These
formats can be streamed from most web
servers and anyone with windows 98 or
better would be able to view them.
Hardware and Software Requirements for
General Use
A 266MHz Pentium with MMX with no less
than 64 MB of RAM or better is required.
The system must be running either Windows
2000 or Windows XP. A video and/or audio
capture card with the proper cabling is
necessary to connect the computer to your
media source – VCR, CD player, microphone,
cassette player, etc.
